Security Guard resume example

Licensing decides most of this hiring. SIA badge, state guard card, first aid, CPR and any firearms authorisation belong high and stated exactly, including expiry, because a site cannot roster an unlicensed officer regardless of how good they are.
After that, the site and the incidents. Corporate reception, hospital, retail loss prevention, construction and events are different jobs with different risks. And incident handling is the substance: what you observed, what you did, what you wrote. Clear reports are the deliverable of the role, and a resume that shows written precision is showing the skill itself.

Copy the shape, not the words. Each one leads with the result, then names the mechanism, and carries the vocabulary of the field without listing it.
Held overnight cover for a 340,000 sq ft distribution site with nine access points, running hourly patrols logged on a checkpoint system.
Handled roughly 120 incidents a year (trespass, medical, alarm activations), writing the report on each within the shift and with no report returned for clarification.
De-escalated 40-plus confrontations at a retail entrance over two years without a physical intervention or a complaint.
Monitored 96 CCTV channels and identified the pattern behind a run of stock losses, which recovered roughly €38K of shrink.
Ran two full evacuation drills as floor marshal for a 900-person office, both clearing inside the four-minute target.
The rewrite that matters most in this role
Patrolled the premises, monitored CCTV cameras and reported any suspicious activity to the supervisor.
Held overnight cover for a 340,000 sq ft site with nine access points, handling about 120 incidents a year with no report returned for clarification.
Why it works: The weak version describes a shift in the abstract. The rewrite gives the size of what you were responsible for, the incident volume, and a quality signal on the actual written deliverable of the job.
Skills
Skills worth listing as a security guard
Only what you would be comfortable being interviewed on. A long list dilutes every real match.
Technical & role-specific
Worth proving, not claiming
These belong inside a bullet that demonstrates them, not in a list. A line that says “communication” is worth nothing; a bullet showing you ran the workshop is worth a lot.
Keywords
What the tracking system is indexing
These are the terms a requisition for this title typically matches on. Use the ones that are true of you, inside the sentences where you did the work.
Paste the actual posting into the builder and you get this list generated from that requisition instead of the general case, including which terms you are already carrying and which bullet is the right home for the rest.
How keyword targeting worksMistakes
Errors specific to security guard resumes
Not the generic advice. These are the ones that cost people interviews in this particular field.
Licence number and expiry missing
It is a legal prerequisite. Without it the application often cannot be progressed at all.
No incident volume
A quiet corporate lobby and a busy hospital A&E are different experience. The count says which you have.
Ignoring report writing
Reports are the record that matters when something is disputed. Evidence of good ones is a genuine differentiator.
Overstating physical intervention
Employers prefer officers who avoid it. Frame de-escalation as the achievement, which it is.
Questions
Security Guard resume questions
I am ex-military or ex-police. How should I position that?
Translate it into civilian site terms (patrols, access control, reporting, public interaction) and keep the ranks and acronyms minimal.
Do shift patterns matter on the resume?
Yes. Stating that you have held nights, weekends or 12-hour rotations makes you easier to roster and is a real advantage.
Is a clean criminal record something to state?
Note that you hold a current licence and any clearance level; the licence itself implies the vetting.
