I am applying for the ED staff nurse position at Memorial. I have spent the last four years as a charge nurse on nights in a 42-bed Level I trauma department at Rush, and I am relocating to Austin in March. My Texas licence application is filed through the compact and I have housing confirmed, so I can start on any date after the fifteenth.
On nights I coordinate 18 staff at an average census of 96 patients, and I led the split-flow triage restructure that took door-to-provider time from 34 minutes to 19 and held it across four quarters. I precept new graduates, which I would want to keep doing: nine of the eleven I have taken through orientation are still on the unit past two years. My CCRN and TNCC are current, and I am comfortable at 1:4 with two critical holds, because that has been most of my Tuesdays.
I chose Memorial specifically because of the trauma volume and because your stroke and STEMI times are published, and I would rather work somewhere that publishes them. I would be glad to talk through how your night shift is staffed and where a charge nurse fits in it.
Sincerely, Daniel Okonkwo, RN, BSN, CCRN
