UX Designer resume example

Also indexed as: product designer · UX/UI designer · interaction designer

The portfolio decides a UX hire, but the resume decides whether the portfolio gets opened, and it is frequently read by a recruiter before any designer sees it. That means the document must be plain, parseable and specific, and it must contain the link, in the header, working.

The content problem is that most UX resumes describe process: conducted user research, created wireframes, built prototypes, iterated on feedback. That is the method every designer uses. What distinguishes candidates is what shipped and what changed (task success, drop-off, support tickets, time on task), plus evidence that research actually altered a decision rather than decorating one.

Summary

Growth marketer who owns the number, not the campaign calendar. Took a self-serve funnel from 1.2% to 3.4% visitor-to-trial over four quarters and rebuilt the lifecycle programme that now drives 31% of new ARR. Equally comfortable in the ad account and the data warehouse.

A complete document in the Meridian family of layouts, rendered live, not a screenshot.

The screen

What a ux designer resume is actually judged on

01

The portfolio link

In the header, live, and with case studies that show reasoning rather than final screens only.

02

Shipped work, not concepts

Which flows are live and how many people use them. A redesign nobody launched is a different claim.

03

Outcome metrics

Completion rate, drop-off, error rate, support contacts, time on task. Designers who quote these are rare.

04

Research practice

Studies run, participants, method, and a decision that changed because of what you found.

Bullets

5 bullets that would survive the screen

Copy the shape, not the words. Each one leads with the result, then names the mechanism, and carries the vocabulary of the field without listing it.

  • Redesigned the onboarding flow used by 1.4M annual signups, lifting completion from 54% to 78% and cutting first-week support contacts 32%.

  • Ran 42 moderated usability sessions across three markets; the findings killed a planned dashboard rebuild in favour of fixing search, which was the actual complaint.

  • Owned the design system with two engineers (90 components, tokens shared with code), which took new feature design time down by roughly a third.

  • Cut checkout abandonment 14% by removing two form steps and moving address capture to a lookup, measured against a held-back control.

  • Introduced a quarterly benchmark study so the team could see task success move over time rather than arguing from opinion.

The rewrite that matters most in this role

Before

Conducted user research, created wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, and iterated based on stakeholder feedback.

After

Redesigned onboarding for 1.4M annual signups, taking completion from 54% to 78% and cutting first-week support contacts 32%.

Why it works: The weak version is the design process, which is common to everyone in the field. The rewrite names the surface, its scale, and two numbers that show the work mattered to the business as well as the user.

Skills

Skills worth listing as a ux designer

Only what you would be comfortable being interviewed on. A long list dilutes every real match.

These belong inside a bullet that demonstrates them, not in a list. A line that says “communication” is worth nothing; a bullet showing you ran the workshop is worth a lot.

Keywords

What the tracking system is indexing

These are the terms a requisition for this title typically matches on. Use the ones that are true of you, inside the sentences where you did the work.

Paste the actual posting into the builder and you get this list generated from that requisition instead of the general case, including which terms you are already carrying and which bullet is the right home for the rest.

How keyword targeting works

Mistakes

Errors specific to ux designer resumes

Not the generic advice. These are the ones that cost people interviews in this particular field.

A designed resume that will not parse

Two columns, type in image layers, icons standing in for headings. The most beautifully set resume is often the one that parses into nothing.

Process as achievement

Everyone wireframes. Say what shipped and what moved.

No portfolio link, or a dead one

Check it the week you apply. A broken link is a closed application in this field.

Concept work presented as delivered

Reviewers ask. Label unshipped work as exploration and keep your credibility.

Questions

UX Designer resume questions

UX designer or product designer?

Use the posting's word. Product designer usually implies more ownership of outcomes and scope; if your bullets show that, prefer it.

I cannot share work under NDA. What then?

Describe the problem, your approach and the outcome in words, and show comparable public or personal work. Recruiters accept this if the reasoning is visible.

Should I include UI visuals in the resume itself?

No. Keep the document plain and parseable; the portfolio is where the craft is judged.
