Social Media Manager resume example

Also indexed as: social media specialist · community manager · digital content manager

Follower counts are the weakest number in marketing and the most commonly used one on social resumes. Audiences can be bought, inherited or accumulated over years of someone else's work. What is defensible is the change you caused: growth rate over a stated period, engagement rate against a benchmark, referral traffic, community retention, and revenue or pipeline attributed.

The other half is production reality. How many posts a week across how many platforms, whether you shoot and edit yourself, how you handle a crisis in the replies, and what you spent on paid amplification. Organic-only and paid-heavy roles are different jobs, so say which you have run.

Summary

Growth marketer who owns the number, not the campaign calendar. Took a self-serve funnel from 1.2% to 3.4% visitor-to-trial over four quarters and rebuilt the lifecycle programme that now drives 31% of new ARR. Equally comfortable in the ad account and the data warehouse.

The screen

What a social media manager resume is actually judged on

01

Growth you caused

Rate over a period, with the starting point, per platform. "Grew to 200K" without a baseline is unreadable.

02

Engagement quality

Engagement rate against a category benchmark, saves and shares over likes, comment sentiment.

03

Commercial effect

Referral sessions, signups, attributed revenue, creator or affiliate performance.

04

Production and paid

Cadence, formats, whether you shoot and edit, and the paid budget you managed with its ROAS.

Bullets

5 bullets that would survive the screen

Copy the shape, not the words. Each one leads with the result, then names the mechanism, and carries the vocabulary of the field without listing it.

  • Grew TikTok from 4K to 190K followers in fourteen months at a 9.1% median engagement rate, against a 4.2% category benchmark.

  • Produced and edited 12 short-form videos a week in-house, replacing an agency retainer worth €72K a year.

  • Drove 41K referral sessions and 3,100 trial signups from organic social in a year, tracked with per-platform UTMs.

  • Managed €240K of paid social at a blended 3.4x ROAS, shifting 60% of the budget from static to creator-led video after testing.

  • Wrote the response playbook used during a product outage, which held reply times under twenty minutes across 900 inbound comments.

The rewrite that matters most in this role

Before

Managed all social media channels, created content calendars and grew the company's following across platforms.

After

Grew TikTok from 4K to 190K in fourteen months at a 9.1% median engagement rate against a 4.2% category benchmark.

Why it works: The weak version claims ownership of an activity. The rewrite gives a baseline, a timeframe, a rate rather than a vanity total, and a benchmark that proves the number is good rather than merely large.

Skills

Skills worth listing as a social media manager

Only what you would be comfortable being interviewed on. A long list dilutes every real match.

Worth proving, not claiming

These belong inside a bullet that demonstrates them, not in a list. A line that says “communication” is worth nothing; a bullet showing you ran the workshop is worth a lot.

Keywords

What the tracking system is indexing

These are the terms a requisition for this title typically matches on. Use the ones that are true of you, inside the sentences where you did the work.

Paste the actual posting into the builder and you get this list generated from that requisition instead of the general case, including which terms you are already carrying and which bullet is the right home for the rest.

How keyword targeting works

Mistakes

Errors specific to social media manager resumes

Not the generic advice. These are the ones that cost people interviews in this particular field.

Follower counts with no baseline

Inherited audiences prove nothing. Give the start, the end and the period.

No commercial number

Social budgets get cut first precisely because this is missing. Referral traffic or signups is enough.

No links to work

The output is public. Link the accounts you ran, or say clearly which you cannot.

Platform list as the whole story

Naming eight platforms suggests thin coverage. Depth on two or three is more convincing.

Questions

Social Media Manager resume questions

My best work was on a personal account. Does it count?

Yes, if the numbers are real and you say what it is. Demonstrated audience-building is the skill being bought.

How do I show work on an account I no longer control?

Screenshots in a portfolio deck, plus dated figures in the resume. Reviewers understand access ends.

Should I list every tool?

Only the scheduler, the editor and the analytics stack you genuinely use. The rest is noise.
